ACTIVE SENTENCE AND PASSIVE SENTENCE


 



Active Voice
The verb otherwise have the active form ( active voice) when the subject requires immediate action and object receives the action.
Dad                 loves                his children

Passive Voice
The verb is said to have a passive ( passive voice) when the subject of the sentence is subject to the act .
They    were reprimanded       by their teacher



Active sentences into passive sentences.
1.      Ms. Hopkins invited me to dinner.
I was invited to diner by Ms. Hopkins.
2.      Thomas Edison invented the photograph.
The photograph was invented by Thomas Edison.
3.      Water surrounds an island.
An Island is surrounded by Water
4.      A plumber is going to fix the leaky faucet
The leaky faucet is going to be fixed by A plumber.
5.      A doctor has examined the sick child.
The sick child has been examined by A doctor.
6.      The police arrested James Swan.
James Swan was arrested by The police.
7.      A large number of people speak Spanish.
Spanish language spoken by A large number of people.
8.      The secretary is going to answer the letter.
The letter is going to be answered by the secretary.
9.      The teacher’s explanation confused Carlos.
Carlos was confused by The teacher explanation.
10.  My mistake embarrassed me.
I was embarrassed by my mistake.

Passive sentences into active sentences.
1.      Children are fascinated by Helicopters.
Helicopters fascinate children.
2.      You will be amazed by This news.
The news will amazed you.
3.      A hotel stayed by us.
We stayed in a hotel.
4.      The ball was caught by the second baseman.
The second base man caught the ball.
5.      A quiz was announced by The teacher.
The teacher announced a quiz.
6.      The accident was seen by many people.
Many people saw the accident.
7.      The computer program was developed by IBM.
IBM developed the computer program.
8.      The building was designed by a famous Dutch architect.
A famous Dutch architect designed the building.
9.      The project will be completed in the month.
The project will complete in the month.
10.  His speech wa interrupted by question from the audience.
Question from the audience interrupted his speech.
